Who We Are

Who We Are.

Stoneyhill Playgroup has been providing the community and it's families with a welcome and valued service for more than 35 years.

Whilst the team may have changed over this time the service and focus remains the same;

"Caring for children by providing a safe fun and stimulating environment to promote learning through play, developing confidence through interaction with others."

The team is committed to providing children with an engaging and stimulating environment that helps to develop confidence whilst introducing them to learning and education systems.

The Playgroup is a registered non profit making charity and tries to keep charges to a reasonable level without affecting the services that they can provide.

Our team of play leaders are all qualified to meet the needs of the group and they are supported by volunteers and the appointed parent committee.

The committee is essential to the operation of the Playgroup and we cannot stress enough how important this commitment is. Without the support of our parents the Playgroup would not be able to provide the services it does. Legislation set out by the local authority and the care commission stipulates that all play groups must be managed by an elected committed of parents and volunteers.

Our Services

Playgroup runs Monday to Friday from 9:30 until 11:45am and is held at the Stoneyhill Community Centre adjacent to the Rugby playing fields in Musselburgh.

Fees currently stand at £7.50 per session and parents are required to pay an annual subscription of £10.00 to assist in the development of the services and maintenance of our records and systems.

The focus is on play, however this does not mean that we are not concerned with the development of the children, on the contrary, our play sessions are built around cognitive learning processes. Arts and Crafts develop motor skills and regular reading sessions help to develop understanding of early numeracy and literacy skills.

Ultimately we are developing the children's ability to integrate socially with their peers and adults within the play group environment. This is an important skill that the children will benefit from when they progress to pre-school nurseries.
